DNS, good; pretending to be a pro, bad.
Had a quick and dirty lesson in DNS today after calling BartNet.net to troubleshoot a problem. I was trying to FTP a site i’ve been working on for a friend of Carleens when I got a login error. Well the lady on the other line asks me several questions before asking me, “Have you set the DNS numbers?” The answer came in the form of, “Uh………” Wherupon she took it upon herself to semi-explain what it was she was talking about and what I needed to do. I picked up the rest just from doing it.
Felt a bit silly since I had tried to make myself sound all professional saying “I’m working on a site for a client…” She got me. Oh well, that’s two lessons in one day:
1. DNS
2. Never try and act like you know what your doing when it’s blatently obvious you don’t
-M
That is weird though…your problem doesn’t sound like DNS….if you are able to connect but get a login error, then that means you successfully made a connection to the target site. Which means, assuming you put the domain name and not the ip address of your target site, DNS found the ip address corresponding to the site you looked up…
Hey Mike, my website has moved. It’s now http://www.bartnet.net/~readmore. Thanks! Beth
