Excuse me while I rant! A few months ago my bank updated my gold visa card to a platinum visa card. I assumed this was because I have quite good credit. In fact, at the time, my credit card balance had been zero ever since July. So, February comes around and classes start. With house, insurance payments, medical bills and taxes to pay off, things have been pretty tight so I pulled out my visa once again, whiped off the dust and charged this semesters textbooks on it. Then Valentine’s comes around and I decide to buy my lovely darling a new wedding ring which added another couple of hundred. When the bill came in it sort of got set aside since a $15 payment really didn’t seem like much to be bothered about when we had $900’s, $500’s, medical bills with four digits and lets not forget about tuition. Then all of a sudden, I got a letter in the mail saying that I needed to make a payment on my card or basically “or else” in so many words. Last week I got a funny call while I was on dinner break. My co-worker took the call…something about records update. So I called the Credit Union back to make sure everything was ok, which it seemed to be except that they had my old phone number so I updated that figuring this is what was meant by a “records update”. Just a few minutes ago, the credit people called me again. “You haven’t made a payment since July”. First of all, my bill is only a little over $500. Second of all, I haven’t made a payment since July because I havn’t charged anything to my visa since February. So, technically, I’m only a month late on my payment. Forget this. I’m going back to a Gold card. I was a month late on my payments all the time and the only thing I had to deal with was the outrageous finance charges. Jesus, people, these are hard times! $500 is not that much in the big scope of things. Get of my back!
