Just call me Betty
I’ve been back at work now for three days. I think Mike and I are handling it quite well so far. I’ve come to think of it as a kind of dance. Wake-up feed pump shuffle step work shuffle step and turn and pump shuffle step feed shuffle step school shuffle step feed shuffle shuffle step and turn and sleep. As long as you keep up with the rhythm, everything’s ok. However, being away from Liam is the toughest thing I’ve ever experienced. For six weeks he’s been no more than a few feet away from me so it’s a little difficult not to feel frantic when I have to be without him for an entire day. I was so anxious the first day, looking at the clock trying to imagine what he was doing, was he having a fussy morning or did I leave enough milk for Mike to feed him, etc. None of this is made better by the fact that I’m taking my comprehensive exam this Friday. I’ve studied, somewhat, but I think for me it’s going to be less about knowing the material and more about being alert enough to manage a four hour essay exam. I’ll be glad to get it over with. By the time this semester is done, I will officially be tired of school for at least another couple of years.

Wait, I don’t get it….who’s Betty? Betty Page? Betty Boop?

I guess it’s actually Bessy, you know, the generic name usually given to a dairy cow…because that’s how I often feel these days, like a dairy cow.
