Intentions
Liam has discovered his voice and he’s very happy about it. He’s all smiles and girgles. At some point, once I figure out how to do it, I’ll post some podcasts of him talking. We’ve also taken a few more pictures which I’ll be posting to flickr.
I took my comprehensive exam last Friday. It was a four hour, three essay deal, not too bad, nothing like taking the Bar exam or anything but bad enough for someone who has a slight case of test anxiety like me. They said they should hopefully have the results back sometime next week. I feel pretty confident with two of the questions. The last one, I’m not so sure. It had to do with how social networking sites could benifit Information Systems. I did a lot of “educated”guess work in my response and eventually ran out of time so I didn’t get to say as much as I wanted to anyway, which may have been a good thing considering my answer could be all wrong anyway. Mike has been calling me “master” all weekend however, I’m not going to actually feel like I’ve landed this masters degree until I get the results back and know I’ve passed. Thankfully, even if you miss a question, they give you a second chance by allowing you to do an oral for that question first, and if you miss that then they’ll make you take the whole exam over. We’ll see.
I did a random search on Liam’s name yesterday. I came across a really cute article written by a dad who also has a son called Liam and who also seems to have the same problem we have when telling people his name. I’ve never thought of Liam being a rare name but apparently it’s rare enough around here that ever time I tell it to someone they ask me to repeat a few times and then spell it for them. Usually I end up saying “You know, like the actor, Liam Neeson”.
Seriously - she’s not kidding. In fact, more people get his name wrong than get it right. It’s bizarre. I never would have placed a 4-letter name on the list of “Hard Names to Pronounce”. Liam. I mean, Xorn; now THAT’S a tough name, but Liam?
I pointed out the various typo’s in this post to Carleen, not to be an ass, but to illustrate how we both are being affected by the lack of sleep. She asked me to edit the post, but I’m not sure, in this instance, we should do that. For one thing, it will forever be a reminder of this period in our lives and our mental state at the time. The typo’s give you, the reader, a glimpse into our lives that could never be expressed in words. Not that we have the words anyway.
And while Carleen struggles with words, I struggle with numbers. I have messed up 3 numbers jobs at work within the past 2 weeks. I had one that had a starting number of “125″ I started the job at “195″ - go figure.
Well…this blogg has obviously come to my attention at a rather busy time in my life, because this is just riveting! I’m sitting at home on a Saturday night trying to finish the monstrosity which is my thesis, and well, I’m gonna have such a great time reading through this blog!
I thought of you a lot this week, Carleen, because there’s been a lot of seminars and discussions here about Web 2.0, librarians and the conservation of information! It’s been my pet subject of the week, although I should be concentrating on finishing! So I went to your flickr to see if I could find an email address, which brought me here! And I suppose this is a good a time as any to introduce Thomas Breivik - a nerdy librarian here in Bergen that I adore, which instigated my search for you!;) Just wanted to share him with you, thought you might be interested! I didn’t get the chance to attend any of the seminars, though - but there’s another one coming up soon!
As for the spelling…I totally agree with you Mike! The spelling is a great indicator of what you guys are going through! It’s a great way to record the insomnia! And really? Liam is a difficult word to pronounce? How odd!
Hey Linn! How neat it was to discover all your comments in our moderating box. And thank you for Thomas Breivik’s link. It’s interesting to see how the W2 movement is taking on overseas. We were just discussing this subject with some friends of ours over breakfast this morning. There is so much that can be said about it.
