It’s amazing how much time you can waste online. I’ve just spent the last hour fooling around with my Facebook profile. I’m constantly cursing social networking sites as adolescent and narcissistic. Yet, I find myself on them all the time, accepting invitations, sending invitations, changing templates, adding bling. I’m such a hypocrite. Facebook does have a lot of neat applications. You can run your Shelfari and Twitter feed into your profile. Flixter is another. Tonight, I just added an application called Dog Book (Thanks Amy…really, thanks). I can’t believe this. I’ve just created a profile for our dogs. Yup. Chani and Turbo are now on Facebook. Just in case any of you, you know, wanna friend them or something. I think part of my brain just died. It’s crazy how the internet world makes you feel like you need this stuff.

Unfortunately it seems the big run of Zombie movies has all but dried up recently, and so I’ve had to turn to other media forms in order to get my “zombie fix”. Cindy checked out Monster Island for me, a book originally published in Blog form. The author is David Wellington. It’s a trilogy, with Monster Nation, and Monster Planet following it. All three are in Blog format, while only Monster Island being published as a book so far. The tone of the book is great, everything you need when dealing with zombies: fantastic gore, tongue-in-cheek humor, and lots and lots of guns. Plus a few surprise bonuses: a Scottish mummy, a guy who turned himself into a zombie, and 16 year old Somolian girls in schoolgirl uniforms toting AK-47’s. Rock!

After checking out Wellington’s website I came across a website for zombie based Browser/Flash games! Check out Undead Games.

The summer movie season is upon us and, in fear of missing out, I’m going to write down a list of movies I’m hoping to see this year. A lot of these are obscure horror movies from other countries, but they all sound worth checking out:

  • House of Wax
  • Undead
  • Unholy
  • Devil’s Rejects
  • High Tension
  • The Cave
  • Land of the Dead (go Romero!)
  • Altered
  • The Descent
  • Night Watch

That’s all I can think of right now, but I’ll be adding more as I hear of them from Arrow

So there’s this movie that came out a while back in Britain called Shaun of the Dead and it’s just getting over here to the states. It looks really freakin’ funny. It’s tagline is “A Romantic Comedy, With Zombies” It’s been making big waves within the horror community and I can’t wait for it to get here. Take a look at the trailer.

Mike managed to drag me to the Dawn of the Dead on Saturday. As horror movies go I guess it was pretty decent (I’ll let him give ya’ll the low down) but I was very disturbed when I noticed, while burrying my face in my husbands shoulder during a particularly gruesome scene, a little girl sitting behind me no more than 6 years old. She was hugging her knees to her chest and covering her eyes with her hands. She would peak through her fingers every once in awhile, as if she was trying to decide whether it was ‘all clear’ to look again. It looked like she was there with her whole family, a sister and parents all eating popcorn as if this was some kind of family event. What is wrong with people!

Saw a preview for the House of the Dead last night while at the in-laws place. Can’t believe this one has silently floated under my radar until now. Why was I not informed? Anyway yet another video game zombie movie–but i can’t get enough zombie movies so I’m psyched. It opens this Friday, but unfortunatly our poor little Chani-monster is going under the knife that day. Yup, as of Friday Chani will no longer be a girl :( but that’s ok I can wait till Saturday to see my gorey movie.
Speaking of gore, I just watched Day of the Dead, the final movie in the “Living Dead” series by George Romero. Wow. Sick. Have you ever wondered what it would look like to see a man drawn and quartered? Watch this flick and you’ll find out. It is by far in the Top 3 Goriest (is that even a word) Movies I have ever seen. But i gotta say, anybody who calls themselves a horror buff definetly needs to check out Romero’s work-brilliant.
Oh and speaking of Chani, we’ve never really discussed her in our blogs–Chani is our 6 month old, hellishly adorable Beagle. She is Queen of the Castle (despite my ever-failing attempts to convince her that I’M Alpha Dog). She LOVES Peanut Butter, in fact, for anybody who has cats out there, you know how cats react to the sound of a can opener (can opener=food)? Well Chani reacts the same way when i open the peanut butter jar. She can be passed out on the couch but when I open that peanut butter jar, she’s on her feet without a second thought. Anyway, that’s our dog and that’s my entry
